Rutter ‘Requiem’ and ‘Psalmfest’

Concert details

Thanet Festival Choir’s Spring concert this year features two works by one of Britain’s best-loved living composers  – John Rutter.

Psalmfest is a collection of individual anthem-style settings of psalms written over a period of some 20 years and organised into a 50-minute concert work. From jaunty rhythms to reflective and lushly pastoral movements this is music in the spirit of King David, with melody and song never far away.

Rutter’s exquisite Requiem, completed in 1985, is a setting of parts of the Latin requiem with added psalms in English. The work is traditional in its inspiration and is perhaps the most popular of the composer’s longer sacred works, containing some wonderful, instantly memorable tunes and rich choral writing.

We are delighted to be joined again by Sofia Larsson, Soprano soloist in our recent performance of Messiah. Accompaniment will be provided by a small orchestral ensemble, and the performance will, as usual, be conducted by our Music Director Clifford Lister.

Tickets for this concert are £10 in advance and £12 at the door, accompanied children £2.
